Text on back of card: View over the town of Akureyri, the main town in the north of Iceland. Located deep in the Eyjarfjörður fjord, it has an ice-free port which is crucial to its fisheries industry. Shielded by surrounding mountains Hlíðarfjall (seen at right) and Súlur (seen at left) the town enjoys a milder summer climate though only 100 km from the Arctic Circle. Akureyri is known for its agriculture, commerce, communications, education and cultural activities. A new multipurpose cultural center, Hof, was formally opened in 2010.
